The Spirit Animal for Kuro Shiro, which means black and white in Japanese, is avant-garde artist Yayoi Kusama. With her bright red hair, this 88 year old Japanese contemporary artist not only works in sculpture and installations but is also active is painting, performance, film, fashion, poetry and fictional works, to name a few. Kusama’s conceptual work has attributes of minimalism, surrealism, pop art and abstract expressionism. Instead of her usual boldly-colored designs, we opted for a neutral gold color palette and whimsical abstract symbols in black and white. In true form, we have one black and gold leg and one white and gold leg. In Kusama’s words, “with one polka dot, nothing can be achieved”
